What is periodontology and what does it do?

Periodontology deals with gum health.

Healthy gums and healthy bone are the foundation of a healthy tooth.
Teeth are able to stand only on a good foundation. Modern methods of periodontal treatment are based on reconstruction and regeneration of the bone damaged by inflammation.

Periodontitis, also known as ‘periodontosis’, is the cause of many tooth tissue pathologies. The tooth can look healthy on the outside, but the foundation which keeps him in the jaw is inflamed. With already inflamed periodontium, it is possible to apply specific antibiotic methods of treatment, with the goal to prevent the bacteria present in the mouth and the gums. Afterward, scaling, polishing, and root planning are the next steps in order to avoid tooth extraction.

Open debridement, or curettage, solves many problems: it removes the inflammation, reconstructs the bone and heals the tooth.

Modern periodontology solves the problem of oversensitive or receded gums. Esthetic of the gums contribute to the beauty of the smile, and it can be achieved with appropriate periodontal procedures.
